The film is a breezy drama in which sexual appetite deteriorates yet strengthens a family. The story is complicated but fueled by strongly emotional performances by all of the actors with the film starring Naomi Watts and Robin Wright. The location of New South Wales is breathtaking, off setting the dramatic nature of the film.
Lil (Naomi Watts) and Roz (Robin Wright) are childhood friends who find a shift in their lives when their sons are older. With the shift, feelings between Lil and Roz’s son, Tom (James Frecheville) and Roz and Lil’s son, Ian (Xavier Samuel) lead into a sexual romance. While each person finds the ability to move forward in their life, lingering feelings continue.
I was confused by the title of the film. Maybe there is an irony with the title because this family had their struggles yet loved each other. Also, the friendship between Lil and Roz was strong.
The film is perfect for DVD but should have been twenty minutes shorter.
Other thoughts: A family that wears chambray together stays together. Naomi and Robin were in tip top physical shape as there was plenty of bikini wearing in the film.
