In the monstrous sea of remakes and reboots, “Godzilla” is the absolute truth. Jaw-dropping unpredictable action moves a smart retelling by Writer Max Borenstein worthy of this classic story.
Not only is there thrilling action and a authentic story, the ensemble cast is impeccable: Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, Ken Wantanabe, Sally Hawkins, David Strathairn (!!), Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Richard T. Jones. Score Artist Alexandre Desplat created a wonderful anticipation of what was going to happen next. It was refreshing to see a story where all of the destruction was not happening in New York. There was beautiful scenery in Oakland Bay Area Park along with locations in Japan, San Francisco and Hawaii. Director Gareth Edwards paid attention to detail with each scene. The fight scenes between Godzilla and the MUTOs were spectacular. Even the opening credits sequence was creative.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen play husband and wife but do not have a lot of chemistry. That may be good for when they play brother and sister in “The Avengers: Age of Ultron.”
