Dramatic, gritty and multi-faceted, Writer Dennis Lehane adapted his short story “Animal Rescue” for a film about family, money and consequences.
Tom Hardy, in his good accent and performance, brings a steady character build to Bob Saginowski, who tends a bar and is apart of the underbelly of drugs in the mob.The most important part of his character is the lack of relationships he has which is attune throughout the film. James Gandolfini established once again why he is an original gangster. Still, he was able to bring edge to his role as Marv, Bob’s cousin and bar owner. Noomi Rapace is strong as Nadia, who becomes involved with Bob after he finds a pitbull in her trashcan. Each of the actors balanced the sensitivity and drama of their role.
