A superb cast center the story of struggle between a father, Judge Joseph Palmer (Robert Duvall) and son, Hank Palmer (Robert Downey Jr.) with issues spanning over decades that surface when as Hank is representing Joseph in a murder trial.
Robert Downey Jr. is incredible in this role. It is a nice departure from his Iron Man work yet still holds that charm and wit audiences enjoy. Robert Duvall is ever classic in this role and plays the emotions so well. Vincent D'Onofrio and Jeremy Strong play Hank’s brothers. They are both outstanding in their roles. Billy Bob Thornton, Dax Shepard, Vera Farmiga and Denis O'Hare are each great in their roles, bringing something layered to the story.
The setting of a small town in Indiana adds to the beauty and tragedy of the story. Director David Dobkin, Writers Nick Schenk and Bill Dubuque and Casting Directors Kenny Barden and Paul Schnee are apart of what makes this film great because of each detail.
I recommend “The Judge” because it is heartfelt, dramatic and honest.
