The Romantics:

This lighthearted and sarcastic film could also make for an extended Kate Spade promo. The film believes that nothing complicates friendship like love. Well, when you have Vampire’s weakness as your bride to be, it’s actually beyond complicated.

Friends reunite to celebrate the upcoming nuptials of Lila, played by Anna Paquin and Tom, played by Josh Duhamel. Laura and Lila couldn’t be any more different but are college best friends who share the same taste in a man: Tom. In one night, revelations are unveiled, drugs are consumed and a wedding dress is adorned.

Elijah Wood delivers one of the best drunken wedding rehearsal dinner speeches in probably movie history. Dianna Agron was a delight in a small role as Lila’s sister, Minnow. Candice Bergen is the perfect East Coast countryside mother. Written and directed by Galt Niederhoffer, who adapted her novel, this film is also jarring. Katie Holmes served as an executive producer with a cast including Adam Brody and Malin Ackerman. “The Romantics” is a wonderful independent film that builds so well from the norm of storytelling.
