I am finishing up “The Great Gatsby” before I go see the film.
Detroit: An American Autopsy: Charlie Le Duff, native son of Detroit and author, notes that this book is not a memoir but his story about a city that has fallen through the cracks but in places the fissures hold together. Very engaging and personal as well as funny. I recommend this book be read with “Why We Suck” by Denis Leary and “Twilight of the Elites” by Chris Hayes. Each book respectively can give a great balance of humor and insight on America.
Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?: Excuse me if I have yet to see what makes “The Mindy Project” so awesome but I liked that Mindy Kaling mentioned the other night on “The Daily Show” about being a woman of color with a network television show. I have had this book on my list for a while and I hope that it is funny and cool and lighthearted. I’m willing to discover Mindy’s coolness.
An Object of Beauty: There has been a whole lotta Steve Martin lately with him promoting his folk album, “Love Has Come for You” with Paul Simon’s wife, Edie Brickell, who is a singer and writer. Steve is one of my favorite comedians and I look forward to reading this book more so because I am interested in his words as an author, which I feel will be sarcastic with a hint of a good kick in the shins.
